Antoine Mathieu Clemont (born 13 July 1981) is a Belgian-French BATracer Formula One driver who is currently racing for Sauber-Ferrari, alongside Artur Pfeifer.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Antoine Clemont was born in Ajaccio, France on the island of Corse to Belgian parents. At the age of 11, pretty late for a driver, he started karting and after 4 years of karting and 2 consecutive titles he, strangely for a karting driver, moved to 125cc motorcycle racing in 1996. After being very successful there, in 1999 he moved to 250cc class and was very successful there too.

MotoGP career[edit | edit source]

In 2001 Clemont moved to the then called 500cc racing class, joining the Proton KR team, but finishing ultimately disappointing in his debut season. In 2002 he moved to Pramac Honda where he had a pretty good season, finishing 11th in the final standings. The next few years were less successful for him, but he still decided to stick with the sport until 2008.

Motorsport hiatus[edit | edit source]

After leaving MotoGP at the end of the 2008 season Clemont decided to retire from racing and become a family-oriented man. For the next few years not much was heard of him...

BATracer F1 career[edit | edit source]

Clemont surprised the motorsport world with his announcement that he would participate in the 2011 BATracer Formula One season, even if he had no experience in a similar sport since his karting as a child. He was signed for the Sauber F1 Team.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Antoine Clemont holds both Belgian and French nationalities because he was born in France, so he was able to race for either nation. Clemont currently resides in Antwerp, Belgium, located in the Flanders region, the Dutch part of Belgium, even if he has Wallonian heritage and was also born in France.
